Equestrian & Wildlife Artist - Katy Sodeau

The African Wild Dog fascinates Katy, she has been lucky enough to see packs of this very rare animal on a number of occasions in Botswana and South Africa.

The African Wild Dog is an IUCN red-listed endangered predator, it is know by a variety of other names including the Cape Hunting Dog or African Hunting Dog, the species latin name is Lycaon Pictus which translates to Painted Wolf so it can also be know as the Painted Hunting Dog and many other combinations in between! Painted Dog is the term advocated by one of the breed's foremost conservationists, Greg Rasmussen, as he explains in this Smithsonian article. His charity that attempts to study and conserve the dogs is called the Painted Dog Conservation Project.
